Sisters have figured prominently in Indiana's recently announced Olympic Development Program teams.
Stephanie and Selena Iglesias are among 15 southern Indiana players named on the final ODP squads, while Maggie O'Farrell is set to be joined by her sister Kady when further teams are announced on May 6.
The Iglesias girls from New Albany hit the right notes when trying out for the ODP '95 regional camp, which they were joined on by another New Albanian in the shape of Brandy OrthBecker.
Maggie O'Farrell of Georgetown, who plays for Javanon, made the '96 team, while sister Kady is set to be chosen on the '94 girls' team.
Morgan Hutchison, of SIU's Jaguars, and Taylor Little are alternates on the '93 team.
Among the boys selected were Jeffersonville’s Pierce Crawley (1995), Vincent Straight (1993) and Jordan Vejar (1994), while Cray Trimble of Floyd Knobs was chosen as an alternate on the '94 team.
Chase Gosman, Jacob Hedrick, Andrew Kennedy, Tyler McGeorge and Tyler Menne have been chosen to go to the '96 regional camp.
Mike Vejar, Indiana Youth Soccer's district commissioner for the area, said he continues to be impressed by the level of talent being generated here.
"Last year, we had an unprecedented 11 players on the ODP program and surpassed that this year with 15," he told The Evening News & The Tribune. "My compliments go out to all the are clubs, directors of coaching, administrator, and coaches who commit their time to educating themselves for the purpose of properly training our area's soccer youth.
"I'm sure our area's high school coaches can't wait for these talented players to join their programs. Southern Indiana's soccer future seems well stocked for success for the years to come."
Vejar said that he is particularly proud of Vincent Straight, who he has coached for seven years and is bound for Jeffersonville High School, making the '93 team.
"It is a very talented group and for Vincent to have made it given the team was downsized from 36 last season to only 18 this season is a huge accomplishment for this young man," he said.
Vejar's son Jordan made the '89 team in what is his second consecutive selection.
"Last year at ODP camp, Jordan led the 94 team in scoring in four games against Wisconsin, Kentucky, Minnesota, and Iowa. He will play at Jeffersonville High School in the fall of 2009," said Vejar.
Pierce Crawley, who plays for Javanon's 95 team, is a repeat member of the ODP team.
"He likely will fill defender role on the team as his skills are very advanced for his age," said Vejar. "He'll attend Providence HS in the fall of 2009."
The 91, 92, and 94 girls will not make their team announcements until after the final trial session on May 4. Those teams will be listed on Indiana Youth Soccer's website (www.indianayouthsoccer.com) on Wednesday, May 6.
